Teeth Whitening Can Improve Your Social Life – It’s Science!

Teeth WhiteningDid you know, teeth whitening is actually one of those cosmetic things that you can do to improve your standing socially? Whether you are looking to getting a date with that perfect girl or if you are looking for your dream job, having the perfect white teeth will help you to achieve those goals. The evidence comes studies that were done recently that showed these are not just marketing ploys but, in fact, hard-wired into our systems. In a recent study, it was found that many women, 71% of women, in fact, judge a man based on his smile. A bright white and confident smile says a great deal about you to the opposite sex; it also gives you the edge in a professional environment. We found that 58% of people who are seeking their dream job and have whiter teeth are successful in landing that job. Similarly, 53% of people with teeth whitened were offered promotions and pay increases. Overall this simply proves that appearance and the confidence of a great smile plays a significant role in our social interactions and success ratios.

Teeth whitening, however, is not forever. The process relies on removing stains and bleaching the teeth back to a whiter shade. Unfortunately, this process is gradually undone as we eat certain foods and engage in certain habits. It does not matter if your teeth whitening is done using an over the counter solution, or if you chose professional whitening.  While we recommend that you whiten your teeth by coming in and seeing us for the process – in the end how long your teeth stay white will depend on a number of factors. There are some very important do’s and don’ts that you should follow if you want to avoid having to have a teeth whitening process done every six months. It is never advisable to have your teeth whitened more frequently than that, so here are some tips.

Avoid foods with a lot of pigmentation. While there are definite advantages to eating things like blueberries, there is also a staining factor with foods like these. Other foods that may stain your teeth are actually quite innocuous and include marinara and soy sauce. If you do eat these foods, it is advisable that you rinse your mouth out immediately so that you can minimize the staining effects. We have also found that things like energy drinks can have an adverse effect on your teeth. The sugars in these drinks can have the same effects of eroding your enamel as eating a citrus fruit. The only difference is, with energy drinks; your teeth are literally bathing in the corrosive substances. It almost goes without saying, but smoking and chewing tobacco will  also stain your teeth quite drastically.

One way for you to help keep your teeth whiter is to ensure that you are brushing your teeth at least twice a day. To ensure that the brush is doing its job correctly, we strongly encourage you to change your brush or brush head out at least once every six months. You can also brush with a whitening toothpaste to help your teeth stay sparkling in between whitening treatments.
